Another big win – Anchs gets ClubsFirst award

Just weeks after receiving a massive Sport England boost towards its new astro-turf pitch, Gillingham Anchorians Hockey Club is now celebrating the award of the national kite-mark ‘ClubsFirst’. As England Hockey’s club accreditation scheme – ClubsFirst is a national recognition of clubs which can demonstrate that they are working towards minimum operating standards. It is aligned with the Sport England Clubmark accreditation, recognised nationally by National Governing Bodies, local government, education and the sporting industry. Men’s Club Captain Richard Brewer explains: “The ClubsFirst award means we have been recognised as working towards providing a safe, effective and child friendly hockey environment. As well as working more closely with local schools and the Gillingham and Rainham community, we hope to explore other benefits such as county sports partnerships and funding agencies which are increasingly recognising clubs like this and choosing to work with them as a priority.”

Anchs Chairman Gary Jackson said: “It’s our 61st year and it’s turning into a brilliant season with all sorts of great indicators for the future. I’m delighted for the small team which worked so hard on gaining the ClubsFirst accreditation and it reinforces our commitment to providing a fun, family-friendly hockey club for people of all ages and abilities in Gillingham and Rainham.”
