There were medals galore on Saturday  3rd September as we celebrated the start of the new season with an Olympics themed open day for new and existing players.

As part of the national HockeyFest celebration, junior players from 4 to 13-years-old took part in matches before the senior membership enjoy a mixed six-a-side tournament.

There were also additional competitive and social events with off-pitch fun including games for the youngsters that ranged from relay races to a strawberry laces eating contest.

Parents also got in on the act with a cake sale, BBQ and fundraising efforts which included laying small change from one end of the pitch to the other. Meanwhile dad Ivan Brinn, whose son Bobby plays in the under10s team, spent two hours in a bath of beans just outside the club’s new astro all-weather pitch at Darland Avenue. Their efforts raised an impressive £1600.

Chairman Gary Jackson said: “It’s been an amazing summer which started with our hugely successful Back to Hockey sessions and finished with a brilliantly inspiring result for the British ladies in Rio. We’ve seen lots of interest in people giving the sport a try and welcomed lots of new players to our Club Day – we pride ourselves on being a fun, family club and enjoy ourselves both on the pitch and off, as Bobby’s bean-fest fundraising idea proves.”
