Our youngsters were in action at the Kent Clubs Championships today with the under-12 girls travelling to Tonbridge and the under-12 boys heading to Canterbury to play against the county’s top teams.
Coached by Trevor Shave, the girls started tentatively against tough opposition from Canterbury and then Sevenoaks who went on to win the entire tournament. However, they bounced back from the two early defeats to chalk up a one-nil win over Folkestone thanks to a great strike from Amy Shave. Keeper Izzy Goddard unfortunately fell ill and Grace Wren stepped between the posts, pulling off some great saves to ensure a clean sheet. This was followed by nil-nil draw against Marden which Anchs unfortunately lost 2-3 in the subsequent penalty shuffle to decide which team should progress. In each game, Lily Antrim and Emily Skinner marshalled the defence well with determined support from younger players Ellie Lister and Lara Cox while Grace Smith and Annaleise Kerswill again provided strength driving forward.
Thanks to Truffs who umpired for Anchs and a very supportive band of parents and grandparents who kept cheering until the final whistle.
Meanwhile, the boys were also in action at Canterbury and had mixed fortunes with two wins and five defeats from their seven games. (MATCH REPORT TO FOLLOW).
The girls and boys have much to celebrate at next Friday’s Anchs Juniors’ Awards night.
